Lifestyle Newborn Session at Home
There are fewer and fewer mysteries left in this world, we have become smarter and faster and as is our nature we have poked and prodded and figured and experimented. Now, please don’t get me wrong, science is definitely a thing that I am into, but I also feel the yearning for wonder. For those moments where you are overcome with a feeling of mystery and awe and things have no choice but to just be because we don’t understand just yet. Thankfully, I picked just the right business to be in because what could be more wondrous than growing, birthing, and raising another human(s)? I haven’t studied nearly enough anatomy to know what exactly goes into an elbow, for example, and yet to this point my body has created four of them – fully functional, throwing, lifting, bending elbows. Incredible.
Having this all unfold in my own life has been the most enormous joy (most of the time 😉 ) and privilege but when another family invites me into that most precious space – their home after a baby is born – I can’t help but be overwhelmed with the honor of witnessing those precious hours. I wish I could bottle up that feeling of new life but since I have not found that recipe just yet, some photos are the best I can do.
Newborns, despite their reputation, are truly all different. There is something so special about the first few days with a newborn baby, besides the obvious wonder of a brand new human, the whole family is adjusting and changing to fit their new reality. It’s a little like the morning after a snowfall: everything is brighter, the sparkles off the snow causing the world to appear as a magical wonderland. And yet, it’s disorienting. Things previously exposed are covered and vice versa, activities need to be altered, and new things are possible.
